Thing 4

Reading and commenting on someone’s blog in relation to the Education 3040 class helps you get to know your fellow students. Everyone is different in their thinking and might have a different reaction to the task at hand. By reading on someone else’s blog a person gain a different understanding of the topic. By commenting on someone’s blog a person might expand on an idea the original blogger might not have fully expressed. The commenter might give insight or a different view of the topic. The comments create an open discussion where everyone can share their views.

The blogger at Cool Cat Teacher talks about writing a meaningful comment. She believes that this lets the commenter vote on the topic and become a part of the bloggers world.  I think that this is very important because it helps the blogger to know what topics her readers enjoy.

I have chose to follow the following bloggers.
Kelley Poole
Morgan Garton
Shelby Burkhart
Abby Smith
Olivia Rhodes

Thing 3

My plan of study is Interdisciplinary Studies: Middle Grades 4-8 with an English Cognate. I would like to teach 6-8 grade reading and language arts classes. For either of these disciplines, a blog would be a handy tool. Of course, it can be used for normal updates and information regarding the class, but it could be used to enhance or extend the class day.  I could use tools like word of the day and grammar problems of the day. Extra information regarding the authors or background information on the stories to be read could be included in the blog. I could post questions regarding the reading material and the students would have to comment with the answers. As a discussion board, the blog could be a way to enhance their writing abilities. It could also help them with learning to be respectful to others and their opinions.

Thing 2

Choosing the blog name was easy because I chose to name it 23 things since that is  the focus of this blog. Creating the blog was fairly easy for me because I have had blogs on blogger in the past. I enjoy writing, but I am not always confident in my writing ability. I hope that this class will help me to gain confidence in this area of my education.

My avatar looks similar to me in a lot of ways. I dressed my avatar in a red shirt because red is my favorite color. I think the color red signifies power, strength, and confidence. I always feel more confident in some of my red shirts than other shirts. I also dressed my avatar in heels because I like to wear heels. I do not wear heels here at Austin Peay because of all the walking outside.

Thing 1

The easiest 7 1/2 habit of life-long learners is number six. Habit number six is using technology to your advantage. I love to use technology. I use a smart phone, Ipad, and laptop periodically throughout each day. I love to learn about new technology. I have very little experience with a MAC computer. Since this semester has started, I have been working on a MAC and learning to use it effectively. I find new tricks to make my tasks easier each time I work on a MAC.

The hardest habit for me would be number four. Habit number four deals with having confidence in yourself and a competent and effective learner. I doubt myself a lot when learning. I worry that I will sound uneducated or silly when I speak or write at times. I know that I am capable of learning, but I still lack the confidence at times.
